Programme for Lent 2011
LENT:
This is the time for turning anew to God. That is what the practice of Penance means.
HOLY WEEK:
I hope that many of you will be present also to celebrate with us during the days of Holy Week the great mysteries of the Christian faith.
May this Lent and Holy Week be for you and those you love a special time of grace and blessing.

ASH WEDNESDAY, 9th MARCH:
Bishop Terence Brain, The Bishop of Salford, will preach at the lunchtime Masses, 12 noon and 1.05pm.
The Ashes will be distributed at both the above Masses.
HOLY MASS:
Each weekday apart from Ash Wednesday.
Lunchtime Mass at 12.30pm.
Each Saturday: Mass at 12 noon and (First Mass of Sunday) 5.15pm.
Each Sunday: Mass at 10.15am and 12noon.
CONFESSIONS:
There will not be any confessions on Ash Wednesday. For Holy Week, see below.
Confessions during Lent, from Monday, 14th March.
Each weekday Confessions will be heard at lunchtime after the 12.30pm Mass, from 1.00pm till 1.45pm.
On Saturday, Confessions are at the usual times.
THE WAY OF THE CROSS:
Each weekday in Lent, from Monday, 14th March, after the 12.30pm Mass at 1.00pm. (For Holy Week, see below).
ROSARY:
During Lent and throughout the year each weekday at 12.15pm immediately before the celebration of Mass.

Saturday 16th April
Eve of Palm Sunday:
Mass: lunchtime 12 noon and first Mass of Sunday with distribution of the Palms: 5.15pm.
Palm Sunday, 17th April
Mass: 10.15am and 12.00 noon.
(Palms distributed at both Masses)
Monday 18th April
Mass: Lunchtime 12.30pm
The way of the Cross 1.00pm
Confessions: 1.00pm until 1.45pm.
Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament 10.00am until 4.00pm.
Tuesday 19th April
Mass lunchtime 12:30pm
The way of the Cross 1.00pm
Confessions: 1.00pm until 1.45pm.
Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament 10.00am until 4.00pm.
Wednesday 20th April
Mass lunchtime 12:30pm
The way of the Cross 1.00pm
Confessions: 1.00pm until 1.45pm.

Maundy Thursday, 21st April
Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament 10.00am until 4.00pm.

Good Friday, 22nd April
3.00pm until 4.00pm The Solemn Liturgy of Good Friday will be celebrated, which will include the Veneration of the Cross and Holy Communion.
Holy Saturday, 23rd April - The Vigil of Easter
Confessions: 10.45am until 11.45am
8.00pm The Solemn Vigil Liturgy of the Resurrection of Christ with the first Mass of Easter Day. The Mass will end at approximately 9.30pm.
Easter Sunday, 24th April
The resurrection of the Lord
Mass: 10.15am and 12 noon.
Easter Monday, 25th April - Friday, 29th April
Mass: lunchtime 12.30pm
No exposition of the Blessed Sacrament
The sacred days between Maunday Thursday and Easter Sunday are especially precious in the lives of all who follow Jesus Christ. On these days we celebrate the institution of the Eucharist, the suffering and death of our Saviour and - the greatest glory of our faith - His Resurrection and living Presence with us today.
The Church's solemn liturgies on these days are celebrated at times when it is possible for many of us to take part in them. Let us try to spend these days close to Jesus and enter into the mystery of his suffering, death and glorious Resurrection.
On Maundy Thursday, there is the opportunity to be present at the Solemn celebration of the Lord's Supper, when, for the first time, those sacred words were spoken - This is my body, This is my blood.
On Good Friday we celebrate the solemn liturgy, during which we listen to the Gospel account of Our Lord's Passion and venerate the Cross (the Kissing of the Cross) and receive Holy Communion.
The solemn celebration of Easster reminds us that we live our lives in the presence of the Risen Jesus and indeed we are called to live in union with him.
